पाक्तेयांस्तु प्रवक्ष्यामि ज्ञेयास्ते पंक्तिपावना: । त्रिणाचिकेत: पज्चाग्निस्त्रिसुपर्ण: षडंगवित्‌

pākteyāṁstu pravakṣyāmi jñeyāste paṅktipāvanāḥ | triṇāciketaḥ pañcāgnis trisūparṇaḥ ṣaḍaṅgavit ||

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ‘പാങ്ക്തേയ’ ബ്രാഹ്മണരെ വിവരിക്കുന്നു; അവരെയാണ് പങ്ക്തിപാവനർ എന്നു അറിയേണ്ടത്—ത്രിണാചികേത മന്ത്രങ്ങൾ ജപിക്കുന്നവൻ, പഞ്ചാഗ്നികളെ പാലിക്കുന്നവൻ, ത്രിസൂപർണ സൂക്തങ്ങൾ പാരായണം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ, കൂടാതെ വേദത്തിന്റെ ഷഡംഗങ്ങളിൽ പണ്ഡിതനായവൻ.
