The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
वानर उवाच सदा चाहं फलाहारो ब्राह्मणानां प्लवड्भम: । तस्मान्न ब्राह्मणस्वं तु हर्तव्यं विदुषा सदा । सम॑ विवादो मोक्तव्यो दातव्यं स प्रतिश्रुतम्
vānara uvāca | sadā cāhaṃ phalāhāro brāhmaṇānāṃ plavaṅgamaḥ | tasmān na brāhmaṇasvaṃ tu hartavyaṃ viduṣā sadā | samaṃ vivādo moktavyo dātavyaṃ sa pratiśrutam ||
വാനരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഞാൻ എപ്പോഴും ബ്രാഹ്മണരുടെ ഫലങ്ങൾ മോഷ്ടിച്ച് തിന്നാണ് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നത്; ആ പാപം കൊണ്ടാണ് ഞാൻ വാനരനായത്. അതിനാൽ ജ്ഞാനി ഒരിക്കലും ബ്രാഹ്മണന്റെ ധനം കവർന്നെടുക്കരുത്. ബ്രാഹ്മണരോടു വഴക്കിൽ ഏർപ്പെടരുത്; അവർക്കു നൽകാമെന്നു വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തതു നിർബന്ധമായി നൽകണം.
