Śrāddha-Kalpa: Pitṛ-Pūjā and Tithi-Phala
iti teṣāṃ kathayatāṃ bhagavān vṛṣabhadhvajaḥ | evam astv iti devāṃs tān viprarṣe pratyabhāṣata |
The verse highlights the ethical force of a righteous assent: when a legitimate proposal is presented by divine authorities, the Lord’s “evam astu” confirms alignment with dharma and the maintenance of cosmic harmony.
The gods speak and make a request/proposal; Śiva (Vṛṣabhadhvaja) responds to them, and Bhīṣma narrates this to the addressed sage, marking Śiva’s consent with the words “So be it.”
