भीष्म उवाच अष्टावक्रोडन्वपृच्छत्‌ तां रूपं विकुरुषे कथम्‌ | नचानृतं ते वक्तव्यं ब्रूहि ब्राह्मणगकाम्यया

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca: aṣṭāvakro ’nvapṛcchat tāṃ rūpaṃ vikuruṣe katham | na cānṛtaṃ te vaktavyaṃ brūhi brāhmaṇagakāmyayā ||

Translation

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ! അഷ്ടാവക്രൻ ആ സ്ത്രീയോടു ചോദിച്ചു—“നീ എന്തുകൊണ്ട് വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും നിന്റെ രൂപം മാറ്റുന്നു? എന്റെപോലൊരു ബ്രാഹ്മണന്റെ ആദരവും അംഗീകാരവും ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ അസത്യം പറയരുത്; സത്യം പറയുക.”
