Aṣṭāvakra’s Visit to Kubera: Hospitality, Temptation, and the Ethics of Restraint (अष्टावक्र-वैश्रवणोपाख्यानम्)
tato ’tha bhagavān āha prīto māṃ vai yudhiṣṭhira | arthāt priyataraḥ kṛṣṇa matprasādād bhaviṣyasi ||
True esteem and closeness to Kṛṣṇa (and to the righteous) is grounded in divine grace and moral-spiritual worth, not merely in status or achievement; the verse highlights the ethical primacy of inner merit supported by higher favor.
Vaiśampāyana reports that a revered ‘Bhagavān’ speaks while pleased, addressing Yudhiṣṭhira and assuring him that, through that speaker’s grace, Yudhiṣṭhira will become even dearer to Kṛṣṇa.
