evaṃvidhaṃ bahu tadā vilapantīṃ mahānadīm

The verse underscores how profound suffering can be voiced through sustained lamentation, implicitly pointing to the ethical weight of actions whose consequences ripple through the world—so that even nature (a great river) is portrayed as grieving.
Vaiśampāyana continues the narration by describing a scene in which a great river is personified and depicted as lamenting extensively, indicating an ongoing episode of sorrow being recounted.
