चर्मण्वती नदी पुण्या कौशिकी यमुना तथा । नदी भीमरथी चैव बाहुदा च महानदी
carmaṇvatī nadī puṇyā kauśikī yamunā tathā | nadī bhīmarathī caiva bāhudā ca mahānadī ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—പുണ്യനദികൾ—ചർമണ്വതി, കൗശികി, യമുന; അതുപോലെ ഭീമരഥി, ബാഹുദാ, മഹാനദി—(ഇവിടെയാകെ ദേവന്മാർ, ഋഷിമാർ, ഗന്ധർവ-അപ്സരസുകൾ, തീർത്ഥങ്ങൾ, പർവ്വതങ്ങൾ, കാലവിഭാഗങ്ങൾ, ബ്രഹ്മാണ്ഡശക്തികൾ എന്നിവയുടെ ദീർഘ നാമാവലി ഉച്ചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു)—ഇവയെല്ലാം വന്ദ്യവും രക്ഷകവുമായതായി ആഹ്വാനിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇവരെ സ്മരിച്ച് നാമോച്ചാരണം ചെയ്താൽ മനുഷ്യൻ മംഗളകരമായ ഋത-ധർമ്മക്രമത്തോട് സ്വയം ചേർക്കുന്നു; പേരെടുത്തവരും പേരെടുക്കപ്പെടാത്തവരും ആയ എല്ലാ ദിവ്യശക്തികളും ഞങ്ങളെ എല്ലായ്പ്പോഴും കാക്കട്ടെ।
