तानि निर्मथ्य मनसा दध्नो घृतमिवोद्धृतम्‌ । प्रपितामह ब्रह्माजीने जो दस हजार नाम बताये थे, उन्‍्हींको मनरूपी मथानीसे मथकर मथे हुए दहीसे घीकी भाँति यह सहख्रनामस्तोत्र निकाला गया है ।। गिरे: सारं यथा हेम पुष्पसारं यथा मधु

tāni nirmathya manasā dadhno ghṛtam ivoddhṛtam | gireḥ sāraṃ yathā hema puṣpasāraṃ yathā madhu ||

ആ (പുരാതന നാമങ്ങളെ) മനസ്സുകൊണ്ട് മഥിച്ച്—തൈരിൽ നിന്ന് നെയ്യെടുക്കുന്നതുപോലെ—ഈ സഹസ്രനാമസ്തോത്രം പുറത്തെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇതാണ് സാരം: പർവത/ഖനിയിൽ നിന്ന് സ്വർണ്ണസാരം പോലെ, പുഷ്പങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് തേൻസാരം പോലെ.
