Shloka 55

नमां मनुष्या: पश्यन्ति न मां पश्यन्ति देवता: । पापेनापिहित: पाप: पापमेवाभिजायते

na māṁ manuṣyāḥ paśyanti na māṁ paśyanti devatāḥ | pāpenāpihitaḥ pāpaḥ pāpam evābhijāyate ||

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— “ഞാൻ പാപം ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ എന്നെ മനുഷ്യരും കാണുന്നില്ല; ദേവന്മാരും കാണുന്നില്ല” എന്നു കരുതി, പാപം മൂടിയ പാപാത്മാവ് വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും പാപം തന്നെ ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഒടുവിൽ പാപയോനികളിലേയ്ക്കു തന്നെ ജനിക്കുന്നു.

Educational Q&A

The belief that wrongdoing is unseen (“no humans or gods are watching”) is itself a sinful delusion that fuels repeated sin; such actions generate karmic consequences, including rebirth in degraded or harmful conditions (pāpa-yoni).
