आवर्तनो निवृत्तात्मा संवृत: सम्प्रमर्दन: । अहःसंवर्तको वल्लिरनिलो धरणीधर:,२२८ आवर्तन:-संसारचक्रको चलानेके स्वभाववाले, २२९ निवृत्तात्मा-संसारबन्धनसे नित्य मुक्तस्वरूप, २३० संवृतः-अपनी योगमायासे ढके हुए, २३१ सम्प्रमर्दन:-अपने रुद्र आदि स्वरूपसे सबका मर्दन करनेवाले, २३२ अहः:संवर्तकः-सूर्यरूपसे सम्यक्तया दिनके प्रवर्तक, २३३ वहल्नलिः-हविको वहन करनेवाले अग्निदेव, २३४ अनिलः-प्राणरूपसे वायुस्वरूप, २३५ धरणीधर:-वराह और शेषरूपसे पृथ्वीको धारण करनेवाले
āvartano nivṛttātmā saṁvṛtaḥ sampramardanaḥ | ahaḥsaṁvartako vahnir anilo dharaṇīdharaḥ ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—അവൻ ആവർത്തനൻ, സംസാരചക്രത്തെ പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിക്കുന്നവൻ; എന്നാൽ നിവൃത്താത്മാവ്, സ്വയം ബന്ധനത്തിൽ നിന്ന് നിത്യമായി മുക്തൻ. അവൻ സംവൃതൻ, തന്റെ യോഗമായയാൽ മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നവൻ; കൂടാതെ സമ്പ്രമർദനൻ, രുദ്രാദി ഉഗ്രരൂപങ്ങളാൽ എല്ലാം ചവിട്ടിമെതിക്കുന്നവൻ. അവൻ അഹഃസംവർത്തകൻ, സൂര്യരൂപത്തിൽ ദിനത്തെ പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിക്കുന്നവൻ; വഹ്നി, ഹവിയെ വഹിക്കുന്നവൻ; അനിലൻ, പ്രാണരൂപമായ വായു; ധരണീധരൻ, വരാഹ-ശേഷരൂപങ്ങളിൽ ഭൂമിയെ ധരിക്കുന്നവൻ।
