प्राप्रुवन्तीह यज्ञस्य फलं केन च कर्मणा । एतच्छुत्वा वचस्तेषां ब्रह्मा वचनमब्रवीत्‌,“'भगवन! इस संसारमें सदाचारी मनुष्य प्रायः दरिद्र एवं द्रव्यहीन हैं। वे किस कर्मसे किस तरह यहाँ यज्ञका फल पा सकते हैं? उनकी यह बात सुनकर ब्रह्माजीने कहा

prāpnuvantīha yajñasya phalaṁ kena ca karmaṇā | etac chrutvā vacas teṣāṁ brahmā vacanam abravīt ||

ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“ഇവിടെ അവർ ഏതു കര്‍മത്തിലൂടെ യജ്ഞഫലം നേടും?” അവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ കേട്ട് ബ്രഹ്മാവ് മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു।
