Chapter 128: Śiva–Umā Dialogue—Tilottamā, the Ritual Valence of the Śmaśāna, and the Fourfold Duty-Code

सुह्दां दुःखमार्तानां न प्रमोक्ष्यसि चार्तिजम्‌ । अलमर्थगुणैहीनं तेनासि हरिण: कृश:,तुम्हारे स्नेही बन्धु-बान्धव रोग आदिसे पीड़ित होकर महान्‌ दुःख भोगते हैं और तुम उन्हें उस पीड़ाजनित कष्टसे मुक्त नहीं कर पाते हो तथा अपने आपको भी तुम अर्थ-लाभसे हीन पाते हो; शायद इसीलिये तुम सफेद और दुबले-पतले हो गये हो

suhṛdāṁ duḥkhamārtānāṁ na pramokṣyasi cārtijam | alam arthaguṇair hīnaṁ tenāsi hariṇaḥ kṛśaḥ ||

ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ പറഞ്ഞു—നിന്റെ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളും സ്നേഹിതരുമ് ദുഃഖത്തിൽ ആർത്തരാണ്; എന്നാൽ അവരുടെ ആർത്തിജന്യ വേദനയിൽ നിന്ന് അവരെ നീ മോചിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നില്ല. കൂടാതെ നീ നിന്നെ തന്നെ ധനലാഭങ്ങളുടെയും സൗകര്യങ്ങളുടെയും അഭാവത്തിൽ കാണുന്നു; അതിനാൽ, ഹേ മൃഗമേ, നീ വെളുത്തും കൃശ്യനുമായിരിക്കുന്നു.
