Ahiṃsā as Threefold Restraint (Mind–Speech–Action) and the Ethics of Consumption

ये पापानि नराः कृत्वा निरस्यन्ति व्रतैः सदा । सुखदुःखसमायुक्ता व्यथितास्ते भवन्त्युत

ye pāpāni narāḥ kṛtvā nirasyanti vrataiḥ sadā | sukhaduḥkhasamāyuktā vyathitās te bhavanty uta ||

പാപം ചെയ്തു പിന്നെ വ്രതാദി അനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളാൽ അതിനെ എപ്പോഴും നീക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നവർ സുഖദുഃഖങ്ങളുടെ മാറിമാറിയ അനുഭവത്തിൽ തന്നെ ബന്ധിതരായി, അന്തരത്തിൽ ക്ലേശിതരായിരിക്കും. യഥാർത്ഥ പരിഷ്കാരം കൂടാതെ വെറും പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം ചെയ്താൽ പാപത്തിന്റെ വേർ മുറിയുകയില്ല.
