Educational Q&A

It ranks four ideals: the Veda as the highest authoritative instruction, the mother as the unsurpassed personal teacher, dharma as the greatest true profit, and fasting as a foremost form of tapas emphasizing self-restraint.

In Anuśāsana Parva’s instructional setting, the sage Aṅgiras delivers a compact maxim to guide conduct, highlighting sources of right knowledge (Veda), right formation (mother), right aim (dharma), and right discipline (fasting).
