उपवासफलात्मकविधिः — Upavāsa as Yajña-Equivalent Merit

यस्तु प्रातस्तथा सायं भुञ्जानो नान्तरा पिबेत्‌ । अहिंसानिरतो नित्यं जुह्मॉानो जातवेदसम्‌

yastu prātastathā sāyaṃ bhuñjāno nāntarā pibet | ahiṃsā-nirato nityaṃ juhvāno jātavedasam ||

എന്നാൽ പ്രാതഃകാലത്തും സായാഹ്നത്തും മാത്രം ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ച് ഇടയിൽ ഒന്നും കുടിക്കാത്തവൻ; സദാ അഹിംസയിൽ നിരതനായി, നിത്യവും ജാതവേദസ് (അഗ്നി)യിൽ ആഹുതി അർപ്പിക്കുന്നവൻ—സംയമിതവും ധാർമ്മികവുമായ നിയമക്രമം അനുസരിച്ച് ജീവിക്കുന്നു।
