Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
तोयपूर्व प्रदायान्नमतिथि भ्यो विशाम्पते । पश्चाद् भुञज्जीत मेधावी न चाप्यन्यमना नर:
toyapūrvaṃ pradāyānnam atithibhyo viśāmpate | paścād bhuñjīta medhāvī na cāpy anyamanā naraḥ ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ പ്രജാപതേ! ആദ്യം അതിഥികൾക്ക് ജലം അർപ്പിച്ച് പിന്നെ അന്നം നൽകണം. അതിനുശേഷം മാത്രമേ ബുദ്ധിമാൻ സ്വയം ഭക്ഷിക്കൂ; ഭക്ഷിക്കുമ്പോൾ മനസ്സ് ചിതറരുത്.
