भयादू रणं परित्यज्य शक्रमेवाभिशिश्रियु: । बहुत-से देवता बार-बार प्रयत्न करनेपर भी कभी सफलमनोरथ न हो सके। उनकी आशा टूट गयी और वे भयके मारे युद्ध छोड़कर इन्द्रकी ही शरणमें चले गये
bhayād raṇaṃ parityajya śakram evābhiśiśriyuḥ |
ഭയത്താൽ അവർ യുദ്ധഭൂമി ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ശക്രൻ (ഇന്ദ്രൻ) ഒരുവനെയേ ശരണം പ്രാപിച്ചു. അനേകം ദേവന്മാർ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും പരിശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടും ലക്ഷ്യം സാധിക്കാതെ പോയി; അവരുടെ പ്രതീക്ഷ തകർന്നു, ഭീതിയോടെ യുദ്ധം വിട്ട് ഇന്ദ്രന്റെ ശരണത്തിലേക്ക് പോയി.
