A devotee/narrator invoking Lord Vishnu’s Sudarśana (within the Vishnu–Garuda instructional frame of Preta Kanda)
Concept: Divine agency that breaks external bonds (captivity) is invoked to cut internal bonds (karma-pasha).
Vedantic Theme: Bandha–moksha polarity; karma as binding rope; grace as the cutting instrument (chinna-bandha).
Application: Transform memory of dharmic victories into inner resolve: seek release from compulsions and consequences through devotion and right action.
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: battlefield and yajna-vedi (sacrificial ground)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: prayers to Sudarshana for removing obstacles and bondage (general parallel)
This verse treats karmapāśa as a binding force that follows the soul and must be cut through divine grace and purification; it frames liberation as the severing of karmic ties, not merely physical death.
By praying for the ‘cutting’ of karmic bonds, it implies that the post-death journey is shaped by accumulated actions; freedom in the afterlife depends on purification and release from karmic constraints.
Live with ethical restraint, seek inner purification, and use sincere Viṣṇu-centered prayer/recitation as a reminder to reduce harmful karma and strengthen liberating intentions.
