Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda)
Concept: Dharma supports jñāna; jñāna matures into dhyāna-yoga; through that one attains prompt liberation.
Vedantic Theme: Sādhana-krama: purification through dharma, illumination through knowledge, stabilization through meditation leading to mokṣa.
Application: Live ethically to purify mind, study and reflect to gain knowledge, then practice steady meditation to realize freedom.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: recurring sequence of dharma → jñāna → vairāgya/dhyāna → mokṣa; Garuda Purana: emphasis on guarding sacred instruction from misuse
The verse presents dharma as a necessary foundation that supports higher realization—dharma leads to jñāna (true knowledge), rather than being an end in itself.
It outlines a graded path: safeguarding sacred instruction supports dharma; dharma matures into jñāna; and jñāna culminates in dhyāna-yoga, through which liberation is attained quickly.
Live ethically (dharma), study and reflect to gain clarity (jñāna), and commit to steady meditation (dhyāna-yoga) as the direct means toward inner freedom.
