Explanation of Purification (Śuddhi-vyākhyāna)
उद्धृत्य मिश्रितान् पश्चात् तीर्थे ऽभ्मः सु विनिः क्षिपेत् / क्षिपन् संकीर्तयेन्नाम गोत्रं च मृतकस्य च
uddhṛtya miśritān paścāt tīrthe 'bhmaḥ su viniḥ kṣipet / kṣipan saṃkīrtayennāma gotraṃ ca mṛtakasya ca
പിന്നീട് കലർന്ന അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ എടുത്ത്, തീർത്ഥത്തിൽ ഭസ്മം സൂക്ഷ്മമായി വിസർജ്ജിക്കണം. വിസർജ്ജിക്കുമ്പോൾ മരിച്ചവന്റെ പേര്യും ഗോത്രവും ഉച്ചരിക്കണം।

This verse prescribes that ashes should be properly cast into a sacred tīrtha, treating the act as a dharmic rite that completes the respectful handling of the deceased’s remains.
Reciting nāma and gotra identifies the departed during the rite, making the offering/act explicitly directed to that individual as part of the prescribed funerary procedure.
