This verse frames them as essential recipients of reverence during rites: after arranging offerings correctly, the practitioner propitiates directional guardians and planetary forces to remove obstacles and harmonize influences affecting the rite and the departed.
In the Preta Kanda, correct ritual order supports the preta’s transition; worship of cosmic authorities (Lokapālas, Grahas) and Vināyaka is presented as ensuring unobstructed passage and ritual efficacy during the liminal post-death period.
Maintain ritual discipline: organize offerings carefully, begin with obstacle-removal (Gaṇeśa/Vināyaka), and include prayers for harmony with time, direction, and circumstance (Grahas and Lokapālas), whether in śrāddha or any solemn family rite.
