Vedantic Theme: Hierarchy of karmas by scope of support (ādhāra-ādhārya): the more foundational the support to life and dharma, the greater the puṇya.

FAQs

This verse states that donating land is so comprehensive that it is regarded as equivalent to donating gold, jewels, clothing, and ornaments—because land sustains and contains the basis for all such wealth.

Within the Preta Kanda’s framework of post-death welfare, the verse elevates charitable giving (especially bhū-dāna) as a powerful source of puṇya that supports the departed and strengthens dharmic merit.

Support life-sustaining causes—such as donating land, funding housing, agriculture, temples/ashrams, or community resources—treating such giving as a holistic form of charity rather than only gifting valuables.
