This verse states that three piṇḍas, properly offered on darbha with apasavya, are believed to reach and satisfy the Pitṛs who are in the preta-condition, making the offering effective for the departed.
It points to an intermediate condition described as the preta-sthāna (preta-state/abode), where the departed are sustained and benefited by rites such as piṇḍa-dāna and tarpana performed by the living.
Perform ancestral rites with correct intention and method—especially the apasavya convention for śrāddha—and cultivate gratitude and responsibility toward one’s lineage through remembrance, charity, and ethical living.
