Veṅkaṭācala Māhātmya: Bhakti-Lakṣaṇa, Nārasiṁha-tīrtha, and the Secret Darśana-Vidhi of Śrīnivāsa
jaigīṣavyaḥ prāha saṃhṛṣṭacitto bravīmi tantraṃ śṛṇu kanyake tvam / śrutvā mattaḥ kuru sarvaṃ mayoktamādyaṃ dvāraṃ śrīnivāsasya dṛṣṭvā
Jaigīṣavya (sage)
Concept: Bhakti is strengthened by vidhi (tāntra/ritual procedure) transmitted through instruction; faithful execution (yathokta-kriyā) prepares for darśana.
Vedantic Theme: Sādhana requires śravaṇa (hearing), then anuṣṭhāna (practice); grace is courted through disciplined devotion.
Application: Receive a clear practice sequence from a trusted guide; follow it precisely (especially at sacred sites), beginning with mindful entry—pause, recollect the deity, and proceed stepwise.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Type: temple gateway/threshold
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: recurring stress on śravaṇa → anuṣṭhāna in vrata/darśana contexts (general internal parallel)
Here 'tantra' means a disciplined, step-by-step sacred method; the verse emphasizes correct transmission and precise performance of the instructed practice.
Śrīnivāsa is a name of Lord Vishnu; the 'first gateway' suggests an initial sacred threshold—beginning the practice by approaching or contemplating Vishnu’s abode/entry as the primary step.
Approach any spiritual discipline with attentive listening, fidelity to authentic instruction, and a clear first step (a consistent starting practice such as prayer, darśana, or mindful entry into worship).
