FAQs

This verse affirms purification as a fitting practice even for disciplined people, but also clarifies that cleansing alone may not be the decisive means for the specific spiritual objective being pursued.

By contrasting “proper purification” with “the effective path (upāya-mārga),” the Pitṛs indicate that progress depends on choosing the right means for the intended goal, not merely performing generally virtuous rites.

Maintain personal and ritual purity, but pair it with the appropriate core practice for your aim—such as disciplined conduct, sincere devotion, and correct guidance—rather than treating purification as the whole path.
