This verse frames Gayā as a destination specifically connected with śrāddha and ancestral rites, emphasizing that one should approach it with proper ritual preparation and adherence to vidhi.
Rather than describing the soul’s journey directly, the verse highlights correct śrāddha performance as a supportive duty toward the Pitṛs—implying that ritual order and purity are integral to ancestral benefit.
If performing śrāddha or planning a Gayā pilgrimage, follow a structured, tradition-aligned procedure, and begin with respectful preparatory observances (including local devotional acts like pradakṣiṇā) rather than treating the rite as merely symbolic.
