Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vainateya, per the common dialogue frame of the Garuda Purana)

Concept: Events (death, bodily signs) have interpretable phala; ritual representation of Surya aligns the practitioner with order (ṛta) and mitigates uncertainty.

Vedantic Theme: Karma-phala manifests through nimitta; turning to devatā-symbol (Surya) as upāya within vyavahāra.

Application: In omen-reading contexts, record direction and bodily signs; perform Surya-cakra drawing/visualization as a centering rite before decisions or remedial acts.

Primary Rasa: bhayanaka

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: direction + ritual diagram (cakra)

FAQs

This verse treats the direction of death—specifically Īśāna—as an indicator with a stated consequence, showing that Garuda Purana includes śakuna-style (omen) diagnostics tied to directions.

It explicitly mentions hikkā (hiccups) and their phala/aphala (good or bad results), placing bodily signs among the interpretive markers used to judge impending outcomes.

Rather than fear omens, use them as prompts for spiritual readiness—prayer, remembrance of the Divine, and ethical living; the verse also hints at a remedial/ritual focus through drawing the Ravi-chakra (Sun symbol) for auspicious orientation of mind.
