पौर्णमास्यप्यमावास्या श्रेष्ठा स्याच्च बृहस्पतौ / द्वादशीं दहते भानुः शशी चैकादशीं दहेत्
paurṇamāsyapyamāvāsyā śreṣṭhā syācca bṛhaspatau / dvādaśīṃ dahate bhānuḥ śaśī caikādaśīṃ dahet
അമാവാസികളിൽ പോലും വ്യാഴാഴ്ച വരുന്ന അമാവാസി ശ്രേഷ്ഠമെന്നു പറയുന്നു. സൂര്യൻ ദ്വാദശി തിഥിയെ ‘ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു’ (ദോഷപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു); ചന്ദ്രൻ ഏകാദശി തിഥിയെ ‘ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു’.
