Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on correct sequencing and timing: pavitrāropaṇa should be done for each deity on its prescribed tithi across the fortnight.
Vedantic Theme: Adhikāra and vidhi: dharma is enacted through time-bound disciplines; sacred time (kāla) is a limb of yajña/pūjā.
Application: Use a pañcāṅga to schedule pavitrāropaṇa; keep a simple checklist by deity and tithi; if multiple deities are worshipped, follow a consistent order to avoid omissions.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: temple/household altar
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.43.7 (Vishnu on dvādaśī; special times like eclipses); Garuda Purana 1.43.5 (monsoon necessity and failure if omitted)
This verse frames pavitra-āropaṇa as a dharmic act of adorning the deities, to be done in an orderly way on the correct tithi for each deity, emphasizing precision in ritual observance.
It states that the practice is scheduled by tithi—each deity has an assigned date—and that the sequence spans from pratipat through the full moon, indicating a structured lunar-cycle observance.
Follow a reliable pañcāṅga (Hindu calendar) and perform deity observances on their prescribed tithis, keeping rituals orderly and consistent rather than random or purely convenient.
