Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vainateya, describing ritual procedure)
Ritual Type: Parvana
Beneficiary: Pitr
Timing: At the āsana-siddhi and seating (upaveśana) stage before main offerings
Concept: Ritual becomes effective by establishing āsana and invoking cosmic strata (vyāhṛtis), then honoring devas, pitṛs, and yogins—integrating multiple orders of being.
Vedantic Theme: Bandhu (correspondence) between micro-rite and macrocosm; mantra as śabda-brahman instrument that steadies mind and aligns action with ṛta.
Application: Consecrate seats with the seven vyāhṛtis; seat deva-brāhmaṇas facing east and pitṛ-brāhmaṇas facing north; thrice japa the salutation including devas, pitṛs, mahāyogins, svadhā, and svāhā.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: ritual mandala with directional seating
Related Themes: Garuda Purana śrāddha-kalpa: āsana-siddhi, brāhmaṇa-seating rules, and repeated japa formulas
They function as a consecration sequence, establishing the ritual space/seat across the cosmic levels (Bhūḥ to Satyam), making the rite fit for invoking Devas and Pitṛs.
The verse assigns directional alignment as part of śrāddha order: eastward seating for Deva-invocation and northward seating for Pitṛ-invocation, ensuring correct ritual orientation and intention.
Even in simplified observance, keep ritual actions orderly: set a clean dedicated seat/space, recite a short sanctifying mantra with focus, and maintain clear intention—honoring both divine forces (svāhā) and ancestral offerings (svadhā).
