ahaṃ hi pūjito rudra ! dadāmi paramāṃ gatim / niyamaiśca vrataistuṣṭa ācāreṇa ca mānavaiḥ
Lord Vishnu
Concept: The Supreme grants the highest state when worshipped; disciplined observances, vows, and righteous conduct please him and become the supportive means.
Vedantic Theme: Grace (prasāda) aligned with sādhana: bhakti supported by karma-yoga (niyama/vrata/ācāra) leading toward paramā gati (mokṣa).
Application: Adopt a sustainable vrata/discipline (truthfulness, moderation, regular worship), keep ethical conduct consistent, and treat devotion as a lived practice rather than occasional ritual.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Type: instructional address
Related Themes: Garuda Purana teachings on Vishnu worship as deliverance and on vrata/niyama as purifying supports; Garuda Purana later moksha-oriented passages emphasizing nāma and conduct
This verse links disciplined restraints (niyama), vows (vrata), and good conduct (ācāra) with divine satisfaction and the attainment of the highest spiritual goal.
It presents the path as merit-producing worship and ethical discipline, through which the Lord grants the 'supreme state'—implying liberation rather than continued wandering in lower destinies.
Maintain regular worship, adopt a simple vow or discipline consistently, and align daily behavior with dharma—treating conduct itself as a spiritual practice.
