Kuṣṭha-bheda-lakṣaṇa-nidāna and Śvitra (Kilāsa) Prognosis
kaṣṭhaikasambhavaṃ śvitraṃ kilāsaṃ dāruṇaṃ bhavet / nirdiṣṭamaparistrāvi tridhātūdbhavasaṃśrayam
Lord Vishnu (narrating to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Dosha: Vata/Pitta/Kapha
Concept: Disease classification by cause and doṣic root; śvitra/kilāsa as tridoṣaja with specific lakṣaṇa (non-oozing).
Vedantic Theme: Deha as prakṛti-vikāra; discernment (viveka) of bodily conditions without confusing them with the Self.
Application: Use doṣa-based reasoning for diagnosis; note non-oozing nature and tridoṣa involvement when assessing prognosis and therapy.
Primary Rasa: bibhatsa
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.164.37-40 (doṣa-wise coloration, dhātu progression, prognosis, site-based incurability)
The verse preserves a traditional medical classification: śvitra (kilāsa) is marked as severe, non-oozing, and rooted in tridoṣa disturbance—useful for identifying disease type in classical terms.
By stressing the fragility of the body and the reality of suffering tied to embodiment, it supports the Purāṇic theme of using human life for dharma and liberation rather than mere bodily identity.
Treat chronic skin conditions holistically—address systemic imbalance, diet, and stress—while seeking qualified medical care; the verse frames the condition as deep-rooted rather than superficial.
