nidrā kleśo 'ruciḥ śvāsaḥ kāśaḥ śuklatvagāditā / udaraṃ timiraṃ snigdhaṃ śuklakṛṣṇaśirāvṛtam
Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Dosha: Kapha
Concept: Systemic kapha involvement: somnolence, anorexia, dyspnea/cough, pallor/whitish discoloration, unctuousness and swelling—holistic symptom constellation.
Vedantic Theme: Śarīra-duḥkha as a reminder to seek steadiness of mind beyond bodily states.
Application: Recognize kapha-dominant systemic signs and reduce kapha aggravators (excess heaviness, inactivity, overly oily foods); seek medical evaluation for breath symptoms.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bibhatsa
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.161.18 (kapha-udara core signs); Garuda Purana 1.161.16-17 (vāyu/pitta contrasts)
This verse lists observable signs—like drowsiness, anorexia, breathlessness, cough, and skin discoloration—used to recognize internal doṣa disturbance and bodily pathology.
Here the focus is bodily diagnosis rather than the preta’s journey; it shows the Purana also teaches practical dharma through health-awareness and symptom recognition.
Treat persistent breathlessness, cough, appetite loss, and unusual skin/vision changes as warning signs—prompting timely care, diet discipline, and doṣa-balancing habits.
