Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Dosha: Kapha

Concept: Pathogenesis of arśas: Vyāna vāyu, seizing kapha, produces slimy soft worm-like growths that protrude externally.

Vedantic Theme: Observation of doṣa-vāyu dynamics as part of embodied causality; dispassion (vairāgya) can arise from seeing the body’s mutable, impure processes.

Application: Address kapha accumulation and vāyu dysregulation (especially vyāna) through diet, movement, and therapies that reduce sliminess/congestion and normalize vāta flow.

Primary Rasa: bibhatsa

Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka

Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.156: arśas-samprāpti involving vyāna and śleṣman; external/protruding type (bahir-arśas)

FAQs

This verse links disease formation to subtle physiological principles: Vyāna-vāyu acting on kapha creates specific pathological manifestations, illustrating the Purana’s doṣa–vāyu based view of bodily disorders.

Indirectly, it frames embodied suffering as part of the soul’s karmic experience in a physical body governed by vāyus and doṣas—showing how the jīva’s life in the body includes illness and its consequences.

Treat bodily health as dharmic stewardship: reduce kapha-aggravating habits, maintain balanced movement and circulation (Vyāna-related), and seek appropriate medical/Ayurvedic guidance rather than ignoring early symptoms.
