Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Dosha: Kapha
Concept: Symptom-complex mapping: head/neck involvement, chest/side pressure, cough, throat rattle, moha, anorexia, and severe coryza—recognition of advanced tamaka/śvāsa manifestation.
Vedantic Theme: Duḥkha as signal within prakṛti: suffering prompts inquiry and corrective action; clarity (sattva) is impaired when prāṇa is obstructed, mirroring how mind is clouded by tamas.
Application: Identify red-flag severity (moha, intense congestion, rattling) and seek prompt care; avoid triggers; support airway clearance and restore prāṇa.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bibhatsa
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.150.5 (pūrvarūpa); Garuda Purana 1.150.6 (kapha driven to head)
This verse lists physical and mental distress-signs at life’s end, helping identify the dying phase so that remembrance, prayers, and prescribed rites may be undertaken with awareness.
By portraying intense bodily affliction and mental confusion at the end, it frames the transition-point when the jīva is about to leave the body and enter the post-death (preta) condition described later in the Preta Kanda.
Use it as a reminder to prepare spiritually before severe incapacity arises—cultivate steady remembrance, reduce harmful actions, and keep end-of-life support focused on calmness, clarity, and dharmic observances.
