Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Both bodily functions and cosmic rulers are effects grounded in a prior cause; divinities too are contingent within the causal chain.
Vedantic Theme: Saguna manifestations depend on the Supreme; deva-adhishthana and indriya-adhishthana are subordinate to Brahman/Paramatman.
Application: Cultivate humility: neither bodily capacities nor worldly wealth/power are self-originating; use speech ethically and maintain bodily purity as sacred stewardship.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: lists of devatas as dependent on the Supreme; cosmological catalogues linking indriyas and their presiding deities
This verse stresses that both bodily faculties (like speech and excretion) and divine offices (like Indra and Kubera) arise from underlying causes, reinforcing a structured, cause-and-effect cosmology.
By linking faculties and cosmic roles to causes, it supports the Garuda Purana’s broader teaching that embodied experience and post-death outcomes follow lawful causation (karma and subtle principles), not randomness.
Cultivate disciplined speech and bodily conduct, recognizing they are part of a larger causal order—ethical restraint and purity align one with dharma and better karmic outcomes.
