Mahābhārata-saṅkṣepa and Avatāra-kāraṇa
Brahmā’s Synopsis of the Epic and the Logic of Divine Descents

Brahmā
Concept: Divine orchestration through human instruments: Kṛṣṇa as inner governor, Pāṇḍavas as nimitta; karma unfolds within īśvara-saṅkalpa for dharma-restoration.
Vedantic Theme: Nimitta-upādāna causality and providence; the Lord as antaryāmin guiding outcomes while agents act.
Application: Act as a responsible instrument (nimitta) for dharma in one’s role; focus on right action and surrender outcomes to the higher order.
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: cosmic-epic battlefield setting
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.144.10 (Kṛṣṇa’s demon-slaying as dharma-restoration); Garuda Purana 1.145.2-3 (genealogical grounding for Bhārata narrative)
This verse frames the Mahābhārata as a divinely guided event where the earth’s oppressive burden is relieved, establishing a dharmic lens for interpreting the war and its outcomes.
Indirectly: it situates human conflict within cosmic order (dharma and divine orchestration), a key Purāṇic idea that actions in such contexts shape karmic consequences and spiritual destiny.
See major life conflicts through the lens of dharma (right conduct) and responsibility—act as an instrument of righteousness rather than ego, minimizing harm and maximizing ethical clarity.
