Lord Vishnu (narrating genealogical succession to Garuda)
Concept: Smṛti through lineage: preserving names and succession as a support for dharmic identity and social memory.
Vedantic Theme: Nāma-rūpa continuity within saṃsāra; the individual stream persists through causal succession while the Self remains beyond lineage.
Application: Honor ancestry and teachers by accurate remembrance (family records, śrāddha intent, gratitude practices) and by sustaining ethical continuity in one’s line.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.138 (genealogical sequence continuing across adjacent verses)
This verse preserves a traditional lineage chain—Gaṇa → Uṣitāśva → Viśvasaha → Hiraṇyanābha → Puṣpaka—used to anchor teachings and narratives within recognized ancestral succession.
It does not directly discuss the soul’s post-death journey; instead, it functions as a vaṃśa (genealogical) record within the Brahma Kanda’s broader instructional context.
Use it as a model for careful preservation of family and teacher lineages—maintaining accurate records and honoring ancestral continuity as part of dharmic culture.
