The Appearance of Śrī Nārada and Vyāsa’s Dissatisfaction
Veda-vibhāga and the Need for Bhakti
evaṁ pravṛttasya sadā bhūtānāṁ śreyasi dvijāḥ sarvātmakenāpi yadā nātuṣyad dhṛdayaṁ tataḥ
Śrī Vyāsadeva was not satisfied with himself, although he had prepared literatures of Vedic value for the all-around welfare of the general mass of people. It was expected that he would be satisfied by all such activities, but ultimately he was not satisfied.
Because comprehensive scholarship and welfare work alone did not fully present pure devotion (bhakti) to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, which alone satisfies the heart.
Sūta Gosvāmī speaks to the sages headed by Śaunaka at Naimiṣāraṇya, describing Vyāsadeva’s inner dissatisfaction.
Even meaningful service and learning may feel incomplete without cultivating devotion—regular hearing, chanting, and remembrance of the Lord to nourish the heart.
