Kali-yuga Dynasties and the Degradation of Kingship
sa eva candraguptaṁ vai dvijo rājye ’bhiṣekṣyati tat-suto vārisāras tu tataś cāśokavardhanaḥ
In Canto 12, Chapter 1, Śukadeva Gosvāmī foretells that a brāhmaṇa will enthrone Candragupta as king, listing him within the predicted succession of Kali-yuga rulers.
The verse highlights the traditional role of brāhmaṇas in legitimizing rulership through abhiṣeka (coronation), indicating that political power in Kali-yuga shifts through such alliances and endorsements.
They remind a seeker that worldly regimes rise and fall, so lasting security is found not in politics but in dharma and devotion—turning one’s attention to bhakti as the stable refuge in Kali-yuga.
