इदमित्थमिति प्रायस्तव योगेश्वरेश्वर । न विदन्त्यपि योगेशा योगमायां कुतो वयम् ॥ ४४ ॥
idam ittham iti prāyas tava yogeśvareśvara na vidanty api yogeśā yoga-māyāṁ kuto vayam
ഹേ യോഗേശ്വരന്മാരുടെ ഈശ്വരാ! നിങ്ങളുടെ യോഗമായ എന്താണ്, അത് എങ്ങനെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു—ഇത് മഹായോഗികളും പലപ്പോഴും അറിയുന്നില്ല; പിന്നെ ഞങ്ങൾ എന്തറിയും!
Systematic understanding of something should include knowledge of both its svarūpa, or essential identity, and also its viśeṣas, the attributes that make it different from other things. Māyā, the energy underlying all material existence, is more subtle than ordinary phenomena. Only God and His liberated devotees, therefore, can know its svarūpa and viśeṣa.
This verse explains that the Lord’s Yogamāyā is so profound that even the greatest yogīs cannot fully grasp it; therefore devotees approach Him with humility rather than intellectual finality.
In glorifying Kṛṣṇa, they admit their inability to define Him conclusively, emphasizing that His divine workings (Yogamāyā) transcend even exalted mystics—deepening their mood of reverence and devotion.
Avoid spiritual arrogance: instead of insisting on rigid conclusions about God, cultivate humility, devotion, and steady practice, accepting that the Divine can exceed the limits of logic and experience.
