Kṛṣṇa Teases Rukmiṇī; Her Devotional Reply and the Lord’s Assurance
niṣkiñcanā vayaṁ śaśvan niṣkiñcana-jana-priyāḥ tasmā tprāyeṇa na hy āḍhyā māṁ bhajanti su-madhyame
Like the Lord, His devotees are uninterested in material sense gratification, being awakened to the superior pleasure of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Those who are intoxicated by material wealth cannot appreciate the supreme wealth of the kingdom of God.
In this verse, Kṛṣṇa explains that pure devotion is most natural for the niṣkiñcana—those free from possessiveness—while excessive wealth often strengthens attachment and pride, making wholehearted worship difficult.
Kṛṣṇa is responding to Rukmiṇī in an intimate exchange, emphasizing that His special affection is for the detached devotee and teaching her the inner principle of bhakti: surrender without dependence on material security.
Practice using possessions as tools for dharma and service, reduce ego-based dependence on wealth, cultivate simplicity, and keep devotion central—so attachment decreases even if responsibilities and resources remain.
