श्रीभगवानुवाच नरेन्द्र याच्ञा कविभिर्विगर्हिता राजन्यबन्धोर्निजधर्मवर्तिन: । तथापि याचे तव सौहृदेच्छया कन्यां त्वदीयां न हि शुल्कदा वयम् ॥ ४० ॥
śrī-bhagavān uvāca narendra yācñā kavibhir vigarhitā rājanya-bandhor nija-dharma-vartinaḥ tathāpi yāce tava sauhṛdecchayā kanyāṁ tvadīyāṁ na hi śulka-dā vayam
ശ്രീഭഗവാൻ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു—ഹേ നരേന്ദ്രാ, സ്വധർമ്മത്തിൽ നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന രാജകുലജനത്തിന് യാചന ചെയ്യുന്നത് പണ്ഡിതർ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു. എങ്കിലും നിന്റെ സൗഹൃദം ആഗ്രഹിച്ച് ഞാൻ നിന്റെ പുത്രിയെ അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു; ഞങ്ങൾ ശുല്കമോ ദാനമോ നൽകുന്നില്ല.
