Gopī-Vipralambha: The Search for Kṛṣṇa and the Revelation of Divine Footprints
āruhyaikā padākramya śirasy āhāparāṁ nṛpa duṣṭāhe gaccha jāto ’haṁ khalānām nanu daṇḍa-kṛt
Here the gopīs enact Kṛṣṇa’s chastisement of Kāliya.
While searching for Kṛṣṇa, the gopīs reenact His pastimes in playful emotion; one gopī climbs on another and jokingly scolds her as if she were punishing the wicked.
It is affectionate, dramatic role-play arising from intense love and separation—her words are not literal hostility, but a spontaneous imitation of heroic chastisement, reflecting how completely their minds are absorbed in Kṛṣṇa’s līlā.
By cultivating steady remembrance of Kṛṣṇa—letting devotion color one’s thoughts and speech—while keeping playfulness and affection in relationships rather than ego or harshness.
