It declares that listening to Śiva-kathā (the sacred narrative of Śambhu) is itself a spiritual sādhana that awakens para-bhakti—devotion that turns the mind toward Pati (Śiva) and loosens the bonds of pāśa (bondage).
By praising the power of Śiva’s “kathā,” the verse supports Saguna-upāsanā: devotion to Śiva with attributes and sacred deeds, which naturally matures into steadiness in worship—often expressed in Linga-pūjā and remembrance of Śambhu’s līlā.
Śravaṇa (devotional listening) of Shiva Purana recitation is the implied practice; it can be paired with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to deepen the para-bhakti the verse praises.
