Concept: Tretā-yuga is defined by a measured duration and a changed human condition—dharma-awareness persists even amid social ‘lowness,’ indicating gradual decline from Kṛta’s universality.

Application: Recognize changing capacities across contexts: tailor spiritual discipline to one’s real condition while preserving dharma-awareness; avoid despair and practice steady improvement.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A great time-wheel turns from a bright quadrant (Kṛta) into a slightly dimmer one (Tretā), with human figures showing mixed qualities—some luminous with dharma-awareness, others burdened by heaviness. Pulastya points to inscriptions of ‘3000’ on the wheel’s rim as Bhīṣma contemplates the sober shift.","primary_figures":["Pulastya","Bhīṣma","Kāla-cakra (time wheel)","Humans of mixed qualities (allegorical)"],"setting":"Cosmic classroom: a starry expanse with a mandala-like wheel floating above a lotus-like platform; faint twilight bands marking yuga boundaries.","lighting_mood":"moonlit","color_palette":["silver","midnight blue","muted gold","smoke gray","pale lotus"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: ornate kāla-cakra with gold leaf and engraved numerals, transitioning panels from bright to dim; Pulastya and Bhīṣma in rich garments with gem-studded ornaments; gold leaf highlights on the wheel and halos, deep maroon/green borders, traditional iconographic symmetry.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: refined cosmic mandala with soft gradients; sages seated on a stylized lotus terrace, time-wheel hovering; delicate human figures in the wheel’s segments showing varied sattva, cool blues and silvers with gentle gold accents.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines, circular time-wheel dominating the frame; segmented yuga panels with distinct color intensity; Pulastya instructing Bhīṣma, saturated pigments with red-yellow-green emphasis and mural border patterns.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: mandala-like time-wheel surrounded by lotus borders and floral filigree; deep indigo cloth ground with gold detailing; sages at the bottom corners, peacocks and vines framing the cosmic cycle."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: tretāyugam + iha = tretāyugamiha (Samyoga); iha + ucyate = ihocyate (Guna).

FAQs

It states that the Tretā Yuga is said to be three thousand years in duration (as presented in this passage’s framing).

It appears to qualify the statement as being applied to a particular class of humans in the passage’s discourse; the verse links yuga-description with a social/ethical categorization used in some Purāṇic contexts.

It foregrounds “dharma-awareness” (dharmasaṁjñā) as a defining trait while presenting a cosmological teaching (yuga duration), implying that moral comprehension is relevant to how teachings are framed for audiences.
