Brāhmaṇa-Mahimā and Pādodaka Merit
सूत उवाच । ब्राह्मणः सर्ववर्णानां गुरुरेव द्विजोत्तम । सर्वामराश्रयो ज्ञेयः साक्षान्नारायणः प्रभुः
sūta uvāca | brāhmaṇaḥ sarvavarṇānāṃ gurureva dvijottama | sarvāmarāśrayo jñeyaḥ sākṣānnārāyaṇaḥ prabhuḥ
ສູຕະກ່າວວ່າ: “ຂ້າແຕ່ທ່ານຜູ້ປະເສີດໃນບັນດາທະວິຊະ (dwija) ພຣາຫມະນະແມ່ນຄູຂອງວັນນະທັງປວງໂດຍແທ້; ພຶງຮູ້ວ່າເປັນທີ່ພຶ່ງຂອງເທວະທັງຫມົດ—ແມ່ນພຣະນາຣາຍະນະຜູ້ເປັນພຣະເຈົ້າໂດຍກົງ ຜູ້ເປັນອະທິປະຕິ”
Sūta
Concept: The brāhmaṇa, as guru of all varṇas, is to be regarded as the refuge of the devas—indeed as Nārāyaṇa’s representative presence in the world.
Application: Respect teachers and learned brāhmaṇas, seek dharma instruction before undertaking vratas, support them through dāna, and avoid contempt that damages one’s bhakti and social harmony.

It presents the Brāhmaṇa as the custodian of Vedic learning and dharma-instruction, whose role is to guide all sections of society through teaching, ritual knowledge, and ethical counsel.
The verse attributes a sacral status to the Brāhmaṇa: through mantra, yajña, and dharmic authority he is portrayed as a support for divine order, hence metaphorically a ‘refuge’ even for the devas.
It is a Vaishnava sacralization of the guru/Brāhmaṇa role: honoring the dharmic teacher is framed as honoring Nārāyaṇa Himself, emphasizing reverence, service, and the sanctity of spiritual authority.
