वैशम्पायन उवाच
Public humiliation and cruel speech are not minor offenses; they violate dharma and create moral debt. The verse frames Draupadī’s forced appearance and the harsh words of Duḥśāsana and Karṇa as a grave affront whose consequences must ripen, underscoring accountability for dishonor inflicted in a royal court.
Vaiśampāyana recalls the earlier outrage in the assembly: Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā) being brought into the sabhā and then verbally abused by Duḥśāsana and Karṇa. The incident is presented as a decisive humiliation that intensifies enmity and helps drive events toward inevitable conflict.
