युधिष्ठिर उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharma as gratitude and reverent care toward one’s mother/elders: recognizing unseen sacrifices (fasting, austerity, constant welfare-practices) and responding with respectful concern for their well-being.
In Udyoga Parva, as preparations and negotiations around the impending war unfold, Yudhiṣṭhira speaks about Kuntī’s lifelong self-denial and nurturing of the Pāṇḍavas, and instructs that when she is met, her welfare should certainly be inquired after.
