The verse foregrounds responsible narration: Sañjaya, as a witness, commits to report faithfully what he saw and heard. Ethically, it emphasizes attentive listening by the ruler and the value of truthful testimony in moments when decisions about dharma and war are imminent.
Sañjaya addresses King Dhṛtarāṣṭra and introduces his report: he has seen Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna together and will now recount both their appearance/meeting and the words spoken by the two heroes.
